Let the sides of a square be 6cm

Then ,draw a diagonal with the square ABCD
By applying Pythagoras theorem,

⇒AC^2=AB^2+BC^2
⇒AC^2=6^2+6^2
⇒AC^2=36+36
⇒AC=√72
