Molecules whose molecuar weight is 2 times its empirical formula weight is

C₂H₂ or Ethyne or H-C ≡ C-H

The empirical formula of C₂H₂ or Ethyne is CH

The molecular weight = 12 + 12 + 1 + 1 = 24 + 2 = 26

empirical formula weight = 12 + 1 = 13

Therefore,

Molecular weight = 2 × Empirical formula weight

26 = 2 × 13
