Cutaneous respiration may be the sole method of gas exchange, or may accompany other forms, such as ventilation. Cutaneous respiration occurs in a wide variety oforganisms, including insects, amphibians, fish, sea snakes, turtles, and to a lesser extent in mammals, excluding humans.
