Give an example of convergence of technologies based on your real life experience?

Convergence is the norm in technology. I really wish people would understand this, but in my experience most technologists don’t really get it.
Every time you find yourself in an argument about which technology is best, consider how convergence is going to undermine the differences. For instance, suppose you are in a debate comparing say Windows and Linux. You pick your preferred OS. But you know all the OS designers go to the same conferences and they work collectively on the same ideas. When you see a new (and useful) feature appear in Linux, either it was in Windows 6 months previously or will be in six months time.
Interestingly such choices make very little difference to the performance of systems built on those platforms because that is more about how applications are designed not how the operating system is designed. In a perfect world, the OS would not be doing very much to get in the way of the application.
So next time you see people at the coffee machine praising the benefits of an OS, just smile and walk away.
