The air currents or mass of air moving from high pressure area towards low pressure is called as wind.

Generally, the air under high pressure shifts towards low pressure.

There are different types of winds like trade winds, monsoon winds, polar easterlies, the westerlies, local winds and doldrums. Out of these, polar easterlies which move from east to west are irregular winds.

Polar easterlies or irregular wind flow towards low-pressure areas mostly in sub polar regions. These are very cold winds which originate from the Icecap and Tundra regions of the poles.

EXPLANATION:

Wind is the air’s movement produced by the Earth’s uneven heating due to the sun. The Earth comprises five main wind zones: Horse latitudes, Westerlies, Polar Easterlies, doldrums, and trade winds. Polar easterlies or irregular winds which are often frail and uneven are cold, dry, prevalent winds which blow from the east.

They originate from polar highs, areas of high pressure around the South and North Poles. Polar easterlies flow to low-pressure regions in subpolar regions. These are very cold winds which originate from the Icecap and Tundra regions of the poles. In the 'southern hemisphere', these winds are more regular.
