Isobars - Isobars the atoms of two different elements which have same mass number but different atomic numbers.

Example - ^{64} _{27}Co\ , \ ^{64}_{28}Ni // // <br /><br /><br /> ^{58} _{26}Fi \ , \ ^{58} _{27}Ni

1) Co = 27 Protons and 37 Neutrons.

Ni = 28 Protons and 36 Neutrons

2) Fi = 26 Protons and 32 Neutrons

Ni = 27 Protons and 31 Neutrons.

What are isobars ?

Ф  Isobars are atoms of different elements having the same mass numbers but different atomic number

Ф  This means that they have different number of electrons and protons and different number of neutrons.

Examples of isobars

Sodium and magnesium

^{23}_{11}Na

No of electrons : 11

No of protons : 11

No of neutrons : 23 - 11 = 12

Mass number : 23 [ same ]

^{23}_{12}Mg

No of protons : 12

No of electrons : 12

No of neutrons : 23 - 12 = 11

Mass number : 23 [ same ]

Carbon and nitrogen

^{14}_{6}C

No of electrons : 6

No of protons : 6

No of neutrons : 14 - 6 = 8

Mass number : 14 [ same ]

^{14}_{7}N

No of protons : 7

No of electrons : 7

No of neutrons : 14 - 7 = 7

Mass number : 14 [ same ]
