Let us take a common example: Educational institutes

Many institutes make it compulsory for the students to pay full year's fees beforehand. This is completely normal.

But then here the problem comes in Quality of service

If the quality of education is bad then we have the right to choose whether to leave or to stay. If we decide to leave then again we have the right to ask a refund for the rest of the year that you are not attending.

If the institute denies the refund then your right as a consumer(student) to choose has been violated.
