Sublimation : The change of a solid directly into vapour on heating and of vapour into solid on cooling is known as sublimation.

let us demonstrate the sublimation by taking the example of Ammonium chloride.
In China dish , Take a Small amount of the Substance. The dish is covered by a perforated sheet. A glass funnel in the inverted position is placed over the dish so as to cover it. The steam of the funnel is plugged with cotton. The dish is heated from below.

As a result, amonium chloride undergoes sublimation i.e :- it changes into vapours which pass through the holes or perforations of the perforated sheet. The vapours get cooled in the upper portion of the funnel and change to the solid form. The latter gets deposited on the inner walls of the funnel and can be suitably removed later on. The cotton plug does not allow any vapours of the Substance to escape.
