1st method

let the diagonal = d = 40m

perpendiculars to the diagonals are h1 , h2

H1 = 8m

H2 = 10m

area of the quadrilateral = (h1 + h2)d/2

= (8+10)*40/2

= 18*20

= 360 sq m

2nd method

ac = 40m

dn = 8m (see attachment for 2nd method)

bm = 10m

area of quadrilateral = ar (∆abc) + ar (∆adc)

1/2 ac × BM + 1/2 ac × dn

1/2 × 40× 10 + 1/2 40 × 8

200+160

360 ✔
