It was fairly well developed in 1947, like the rest of undivided India.

But the network has become much smaller since then. It would seem that the Pakistan government is not very interested in the railways, and has given more importance to road transport.

Many of the branch lines existing in 1947 ended up with very low traffic and were losing money, and were closed.

You can compare how the railways in India have done since 1947.

Pakistan Railways is an important source of transportation throughout the country which helps in growth of economy for the country. But now Pakistan Railway is facing a number of problems due to mismanagement, poor maintenance and shortage of locomotives, fuel and money
