Differences between progressive wave and stationary wave:

1.Progressive waves are mobile where as Stationary waves are not mobile.

2.Progressive waves have equation as y=Asin(Wt+phi) where A is amplitude W-> Angular Frequency amd phi->phase Constant where as Stationary waves have equation y=AsinkxcosWt where k=2pi/lembda .

3.Progressive waves are more Penetrating in nature than stationary waves.

4.In progressive wave every particle oscillates whereas in stationary waves only antinodes are set to ma ximum displacement.

5. Progressive waves have acceleration different from Stationary waves.

 \textsf{\Large{\underline {Progressive waves}}} :

A wave that travels from one point to another is called " progressive wave".

 \textsf{\Large {\underline {Stationary wave}}} :

When two waves of equal magnitude and frequency, travelling in opposite directions along a straight line superpose each other, the resultant wave travels in either of its one direction. These are called standing or stationary waves.

 \textsf{\large{\underline {Difference between Progressive and Stationary wave}}} :

1. \textsf{\underline {Progressive wave}} : No particle of the medium is permanently at rest.

\textsf{\underline {Stationary wave}} : The medium particles at nodes are permanently stationary.

2. \textsf{\underline {Progressive wave}} : The disturbance travels forward with constant velocity.

\textsf{\underline {Stationary wave}} : The disturbance remains confined to its region of production.

3. \textsf{\underline {Progressive wave}} : Each medium particle performs SHM about its mean position with same amplitude.

\textsf{\underline {Stationary wave}} : Beyond nodes, rest of the medium particles performs SHM with varying amplitude.

4. \textsf{\underline {Progressive wave}} : There is a continuous change of phase from one particle to another.

\textsf{\underline {Stationary wave}} : All particles between two successive nodes vibrate in the same phase, but the phase reversed for the next pair of nodes.
