QUESTION:-

Give any two substances which are harder on heating and two examples where substances become softer when heating.

ANSWER:-

The Two Substances Which Are Harder On Heating Are Vulcanised Rubber And Egg

  • Vulcanised rubber gets solidified due to the heat and its composition of chemicals remains the same.

  • An egg is composed of proteins, so when an egg is boiled at a high temperature there is an increase in its molecular entropy. This increase in entropy results in the denaturation of protein present in eggs and leads to the coagulation of proteins. Hence, it gets solidified.

The Two Examples Where Substances Become Softer When Heating Is Ice And Butter

  • When ice is heated it becomes softer and softer and ultimately becomes liquid because it changes from a solid state to a liquid state called water as heating a substance makes the movement of molecules faster which causes it to lose its energy and thus, it becomes liquid.

  • When butter is heated it loses its molecular composition and its intermolecular space increases which causes it to make softer and ultimately liquid from solid to liquid.
