Under the Sangam Age, Tamil language and literature flourished. It was the basis of formation of Tamil literature.
The people of Sangam Age used to celebrate cultural and religious festivals as mentioned in their literature. They included;
(i) Pongal (ii) Peru Vaeni Kadavizha (iii) Indhira Vizha (iv) Soornavai Vizha etc.
The Sangams followed a megalithic religion, which was later known as monolithic religion. In this religion, a large stone structure was formed either alone or with other stones which became a place of worship. They worshipped gods like; Sivan and Shaiva Sidhhanta.
They followed the teachings of Tirukkural or Thirukkural, or shortly known as the Kural. It was the Tamil text that taught basic daily virtues. The Kural was a set of 1,330 couplets, which were written between 300 C.E and 700 C.E.
