2-pentanol on oxidation gives methyl Ketone .it has CH3 C =O group in it . so it form CHI3 (iodoform) with iodine and alkyl on warming. iodoform is yellow crystalline substance. but if you do the same test with 3-pentanol it does not give this result. by this test we can differentiate
