There's only size and manufacturing difference between them. Like, DVD(5-17 GB) have more storage than CD (700mb). CD contain the polycarbonate substrate on only a single side while in DVDs it present on both of the sides.

CD- Compact Disk. DVD- digital versatile disk
CD-have size of 700mb. DVD- have size of 5-17gb

cd- is used less as compared to dvd. DVD- it has more usage
cd- it has metal layer on the top DVD- it has metal layer in middle of disk
cd- removal of adhesive layer can damage the metal layer. DVD- removal of adhesive layer can cause imbalance in spin
