What is modal ?

=> A modal is a verb which is used with another word for expressing mood , voice , permission , possibility etc.

For ex :-● I can do this work.

In this sentence can is modal.


Types of modal :-

● Will :- Will is used to show a wish , promise etc.

● Can :- - Can is used to express ability or capacity .

for ex :- He can run fast.

- It is also used to seek and permission
For ex :- She can go now.

- It also shows possibility.
for ex :- A solution can be found for this problem.

● Could :- It is used for making polite request :-

for ex :- Could you please lend me your pen ?

●May :- May is used to express possibility , purpose , give permission, wish , asking permission.

For ex :-1. It may rain today.
2.He died so that we may live.
3. You may come with us if you wish.
4. May you live long !
5. May I speak to you for a moment , please ?

● Might :- Might is used to express a distant possibility , to ask permission , to make suggestion , to make a request and it is also used as the past tense of may .

for ex :- 1. India might win the next World cup.
2. He said that he might go by train.
3. Might I use your phone ?
4. you might try my phone.
5. You might just (please) post this letter on your way home.
