Genetic engineering is made possible by recombinant DNA technology. Organisms that have altered genomes are known as transgenic. Most transgenic organisms are generated in the laboratory for research purposes. For example, “knock-out” mice are transgenic mice that have a particular gene of interest disabled.

Transgenic genes are those genes which has been transffered in various ways to other organism which may cause change in phenotype of the target organism.

These genes could get transfer via natural ways or they can also get transfer via genetic engineering and due to these transgenes, the phenotype of the other organism changes.
