The main reason why literacy is important is that it provides knowledge about so many things in a deeper form which was not known without education. When a good number of people are educated then they work to make a change in the process things are working.

They understand the drawbacks of a certain rule or process and then they work to change it in a better way. This change brings out the best that result in development.

For instance, now with education, people understand that it is essential for women to be education that is now influencing people to enrols their daughters in schools.

(1) The country with high literacy rate, develops rapidly in economic, social and cultural aspects.

(2) The country with low literacy rate, faces many obstacles in its economic, social and cultural growth and development.

(3) Literacy rate is related to quality of life, opportunities available and freedom. Thus literacy rate is directly related to development.
