Threre are many marine islands that are actually peaks of sea mountains. These are mountains which rise from the ocean floor but do not reach the sea level.

Seamountsare generally extinct volcanoes which rise abruplty from the ocean bed. Some mountain peaks hardly reach the sea level and some erode deep into the sea.

Because of these mountains, there is a whole marine eco-system which is well established around these submerged volcanoes.

Question :-

Give geographical reasons - Some marine islands are actually the peaks of sea mountains.

Answer :-

The hills and mountains found on the ocean-bed are called submerged hills and mountains.

Geographical reason :-

These hills are hundreds of kilometers wide and thousands of kilometers long. Peaks of some of the submerged hills come above the sea level. They are visible to us as marine islands. Iceland in the Atlantic Ocean, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal are examples.
