In oilseeds, sulphur is important to:

1) synthesise amino acids which need sulphur like methionine, cysteine and cystine. And these amino acids only contain 90% of the total sulphur in plants.

2) form chlorophyll, glucosinolates and glucosides.

3) These are also useful for the activation of enzymes and sulphydryl, which are essential for the formation of pungent smell and taste in oils.

The main sources are:

1) Elemental sulphur

2) Clay-amended sulphur

3) Gypsum

The Elemental sulphur is the highest concentration of sulphur, which can be used for plants after that comes Clay-amended sulphur.

Gypsum has roughly 16-18% of sulphur in it.
