The three main features of arid soil are:
1 Arid soils are the soils of desert or semi-desert regions and colours varies from red to brown.
2 The soil has sandy texture and salinity. As precipitation is very low the temperature is high and evaporation is faster making it lack in moisture and humus.
3 The calcium content increase downward and forms kankar layers downward and sometimes the kankar layer in the bottom layers restrict the infiltration of water. Sometimes, after irrigation its productivity is increased and it becomes suitable for cultivation.
Important features of Black soil.
1 It has a larger proportion of clay and hence can retain moisture for a long time.
2 It develops deep cracks during summer which helps in aeration.
3 These soils are sticky when wet and difficult to work on unless tilled immediately after the first shower or during the pre monsoon period.
4 It is rich in Calcium Carbonate, lime, potash but poor in phosphoric contents.
To solve the problem of land degradation following methods should be use:
1. plant more trees
2. stope over grazing
3 stope cutting of trees
