1. India has been characterised by the rigid caste system  which has been well entrenched in the society from time immemorial and has brought about worst kind discrimination and exclusion of the out caste group who were subjected to inhuman treatment and injustice.
2.Our  Constitution apart from ensuring legal and political equality to all in the form of Universal adult franchise, abolishing untouchability also provides for a system of reservation which provides for  reservation of  seats in education and government employment for SC's and ST's.
3.This system of reservation has been an attempt to create a more egalitarian society and  can certainly not overthrow casteism, which is an integral part of Indian society. In fact, our social structure historically has been defined by castes and sub castes.
4. Since  certain groups which were historically discriminated and were victims of societal oppression, and faced social exclusion  in order to rectify this historical wrong reservation was introduced.
5. The entire policy of Reservation can be regarded as only corrective and defensive mechanism to protect minorities from the majorities. In order to allow them to show their capability it is an initial step taken on part of the government to integrate the lower caste groups in the mainstream
7. Despite reservation, they constitute economically educationally most vulnerable group.
8.Reservation today has become a political necessity with the emergence of caste based groups, parties and caste being a major vote bank factor in elections. Political forces will continue to harbour on the idea of reservation and earn browny points .
9. In fact the policy of reservation has created demands for further reservation by other minority communities, we may give example of demands by gujjars etc.
10. It is also argued that as long as the  system of reservation exist, people will be constantly reminded of their caste based identities.
11. One may however argue that promoting education, greater awareness among the people, even increased urbanisation, inter caste marriages will enable people to look beyond their caste and become more progressive and rationale in their outlook.
12. Many political parties have been using the idea of reservation for political gains and earning browine points rather than actually improving the condition of the backward castes.
13.Parties have also not been able to rach at a consenus with reagrd to Women's resevation in the Parliament.
14. There are political parities who demand quota within a quota that is they want separate seats to reserved for SC's and ST's women, as it would be rightly to say that women do no constitute a homogeneous group. Concerns, issues pertaining to low caste women are certainly different
15. It is also argued that will  encourage dynastic succession as politically influential families will field their female candidates and will make most of the reserved seats.
16. Nonetheless, reservation is an important part of our political discourse.
