solution:- Given x + 1/x = 3 ---(1)

we know that , (a + b)² = a²+b²+2ab

so, similarly , (x + 1/x)² = x²+1/x² + 2*x*1/x

=> (x+1/x)² = x²+1/x²+2

=>( x+1/x)²-2 = x²+1/x²

=> 3² -2 =x²+1/x² (from 1)

=> 7 = x²+1/x²

hence , x²+1/x² = 7 Answer .
