the example can be given by a person walking in a round garden. in such case the speed which is a scalar quantity does not depend on displacement of a body in certain direction ,has an certain average speed but the velocity which is a vector quantity and does depend upon the displacement in a particular direction so after a whole round the displacement is zero and hence the average velocity is zero
