there are newer and more precise methods of modification that are being used, this is because of the advancement of biotechnology.
plants with their own built in resistance towards pests have reduced the use of pesticides which means less chemicals will be used.
plants are able to tolerate hard and unfavourable conditions well.
it is also used to develop pharmaceuticals like insulin etc...
