Magnesium metal reacts with dilute nitric acid to give magnesium nitrate with liberation of hydrogen gas.

Mg + 2 HNO3 --> Mg(NO3)2 + H2

◆ Reaction of Ca with dil.HNO3 -

Calcium metal reacts with dilute nitric acid to give calcium nitrate with liberation of hydrogen gas.

Ca + 2 HNO3 --> Ca(NO3)2 + H2
