Nonavian reptiles are poikilothermic (cold-blooded) creatures, which means that they derive their body heat from external sources (in contrast to homothermic animals that maintain a constant body temperature through internal mechanisms).

Unlike warm blood animals that derive heat from their bodies through break down of food , cold blooded animals like reptiles depend on external sources of energy.
Their temperature is thus not constant and depends on the sorroundings. Reptiles will move on land to absorb heat from the sun to warm themselves up .
They vary their temperature in this manner.
