Copper loses its brown layer gradually when exposed to air.​

Because:

Copper surface which is exposed to air loses it brown layer as the surface gets oxidised and copper oxide is formed(CuO) which is black.

because of moisture , when we put copper object outside means in open area so there are moisture in air I hope you understand
