Answer:

1.The paddy and maize are grown in the month from June to October because they fall under the category of Kharif crops. The main property of Kharif crops is that they are sown in monsoon season that is June and July whereas they are harvested during the time of September and October.

Explanation:

2.Apaddy field is a flooded parcel of arable land used for growing semiaquatic rice. Paddy cultivation should not be confused with cultivation of deepwater rice, which is grown in flooded conditions with water more than 50 cm (20 in) deep for at least a month.

When the water is stagnating in the field the roots die due to lack of air. The dead roots are brown/ rusty in colour. The soil should have soil particles, air and moisture in equal proportions. The paddy plant can survive even when there is standing water. But, for a healthy paddy plant water should not be in stagnated situation in the field. When irrigation is provided intermittently the roots are aerated and grow healthily. The duration of crop varies for 100–150 days cycle. This is short duration and paddy plant grows rapidly if kept in soil with standing water.

Direct seeding, especially wet direct seeding, may be problematic.

If direct seed then

i. Need more uniform land leveling and better water management

ii. Seed planted too deep results in poor emergence and weak plants

Transplanting consists of preparing seedlings in nursery and then planting these seedlings in the prepared main field. Transplanting ensures a uniform plant stand and gives the rice crop a head start over emerging weeds. Yield of paddy from transplanting is greater than the direct sowing.
