Jacobins wanted to end the power enjoyed by nobles who wore knee breeches. They wore long striped trousers as that of dock workers to seperate themselves from fashionable sect of society especially nobles.
This resultes in people calling Jacobins 'sans-cullotes' which means 'those without knee breeches'.
