A "thing" becomes a resource only when it exploited by any other source like humans, etc.. The basic ideology to stay alive since the beginning is to eat, rest and survive in the wilderness...
Since these things aren't resolutions given to us, one to modify the surrounding nearby it so that it can survive..
Humans have cut down forests to build houses and clear land for agriculture...
This is how it has influenced the forests surrounding it...
