Because they were one with the environment. They believed the earth was their mother/friend and if they do anything to destroy it, they'd be in big trouble.
I was told a story in grade school. The Native Americans thought about using the wheel, making wagons,… but realized what it would mean to the environment as in having roads. So they kept two having long sticks, with their stuff on top, dragging on the ground to minimize the impact of their traveling.
Western Civilization had this belief that they were to dominate the environment and to make their life easier. So we created wagons, roads, locomotives, TVs, radio, internet, cell phones so we can write to Quora…..
We are rapidly realizing that the earth is our mother/friend and if don't be nice, we will be in big trouble. But I think I'll keep my cell phone.
