By definition, secularism is a situation where the state does not influence religion. This is an alien concept to India and it’s history. Akbar was a Muslim, with a curiosity about religion that is refreshing. He came to the throne with the Mughals in a wobbly state. He quickly realized that statecraft and religion was a dangerous cocktail.
