shadow is black because it forms when an opaque object is between the source of the light and the source of the screen

A shadow is a dark area where light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object. It occupies all of the three-dimensional volume behind an object with light in front of it.
Shadow is not a real object. So it can’t reflect light. Anything which doesn’t reflect has black colour. Kajal which absorbs most of the light that falls on it. The amount of light reflect is very low so that’s why we see black colour.
