Sodium and potassium are stored under kerosene because they react with the air and form carbonate compounds . As they can not be kept in the air, they are preserved under kerosene . They do not react with kerosene. And as their density is greater than kerosene, they are dipped into kerosene and thus they do not react air .Thus they are preserved. I think this is the reason.
