Area of river sources are generally mountainous in nature. Therefore, the river water moves fast. On the other hand, near the mouth of the river, the topography of land are usually plain and therefore the river is flowing smooth and slow.

Answer: From where the river originates from it's source they are mostly hilly and mountanious in nature,so the flow of water is fast and it rushes down with great force,whereas when it reaches its middle and old course,the land is plain and thus the flow of water is slow and sluggish
