The trees of the mountain habitat are cone-shaped. The leaves of such trees are needle-shaped. The needle-shape of leaves helps in preventing accumulation of snow on the leaves and thus they are not damaged due to snow.

The shape of the crown of trees and their location on the earth related to each other. Examples :

1) The trees are located near equator have flat crown :

As we know that near equator sun is almost directly overhead all the year at the moon-time. Hence flat shape of the crown help to expose more of their leaves to the direct sunlight.

2) The trees found near Arctic circle have cone - shaped crowns because the sun is never directly overhead and is usually quite low in the sky. Cone - shaped crowns help their maximum leaves to be exposed so that they can use maximum sunlight for photosynthesis.

3) Trees found Arctic circles have needle like leaves as these leaves can retain water better than broad leaves, because needle like leaves do not have much stomata on their surface.
