definitely you shouldn't this is because petrol and water are less denser than water due to which if you try to mix water and petrol it will no mix because they are immiscible liquids and  the petrol is less denser it tends to be above the surface of water . so even if you try to put off a fire which is caused by petrol u are basically making it worse . always try to put out petrol fire using sand. hope this helps!!

because petrol and kerosene are oils and oils float on water and do not dissolve so with the help of water it spreads
