Give reason why
1.tartaric acid is added while making baking powder?
2. carbon can reduce zinc oxide to zinc but not calcium oxide to calcium

1)Baking soda is basic in nature and are bitter to taste. Using them in batters can make them taste bitter. Tartaric acid is a weak and mild acid. It is mixed with baking soda to prepare baking powder. When baking powder is used in batters, the tartaric acid reacts with baking soda and neutralises the bitter taste without affecting its ability to produce CO2 and H2O


2)Yes, carbon can reduce zinc oxide to zinc but carbon can not reduce calcium oxide to calcium because carbon is more reactive than zinc but Calcium is more reactive than carbon so carbon can not displace calcium.
