When Copper burns in presence of Oxygen (air) it forms Copper Oxide which is black in color.
The powder turned black, that means it is the indication of formation of Copper Oxide.

when copper is burn in air in presence of oxygen and contact with oxygen or air it turn black and new substance is formed Mey be it help you
