On the other hand, in graphite the carbon atoms are situated at the corners of the regular hexagonal ring. Such layers of hexagonal rings are arranged parallel to one another and the fourth valency of carbon is unsatisfied. This makes the layers to slide over one another. Hence graphite is soft, slippery and flaky.
