Indian continental plate is moving towards north and subducted below the Himalayas and there is still active movement takes place time to time causing earthquake. There were Tethys ocean between Indian and Asian plates and due to movement of Indian plate and collision with Asian plate, orogeny took place which changed sediments of Tethys ocean into the mighty Himalayas mountain range. Indian plate is still moving with slow speed and whenever it collides below Himalayas, earthquake happen.
