The sandy soil is not good for crops because the particle of this soil is so large that it prevents the soil from retaining water , thus the roots of plant cannot remain in soil .

Few crops can be grown in Sandy soil but not all crops.

Explanation:

Crops such as carrots, parsnips and potatoes favour sandy soils. But for the plants which requires much water such as strawberry etc. cannot be grown in Sandy soil, it's rare.

why Sandy soil isn't favourable for some plants?

  • particle of this soil is so large that it prevents soil to hold water.
  • due to large particles the gaps between them are also large, that's the main reason for no passage of O2 as well.
  • Percolation rate is high than other soils.
