here is you answer...

(1). The temperature range of the Clinical thermometer is around 42 degree celsius, it is used to measure body temperature of humans. If it is dipped in hot water, which has temperature far more greater than the temperature range of the clinical thermometer, it will burst.

(2). If we hold the thermometer from the bulb and try to note the reading it will differ because then our body temperature will fluctuate the reading of the thermometer, as the bulb contains the mercury which rises to show the temperature of the body being investigated.
