In summer, the North Pole is tilted towards the sun while the South pole is tilted away from the sun. As a result, areas of the earth in the northern hemisphere are exposed to the sunlight for longer period each day, resulting in longer daylight time.

During spring and summer, more of every latitude in the hemisphere is on the sunny side of the Earth than the dark side due to the Earth's rotational axis with respect to the plane of its orbit. Since the rate of Earth's rotation is constant, that means every point on every altitude in the Hemisphere is on the sunny side of the Earth longer than it is on the dark side each day during spring and summer.
