Give reasons for the following : a. aluminum is extracted from its oxide by electrolytic reduction and not by conventional reducing agents. b. ammonia is unionized in the gaseous state but in the aqueous solution it is a weak electrolyte. c. for electroplating silver, silver nitrate is not used as electrolyte.

Aluminum itself is a reducing agent because it can displace metals of lower reactivity from the compound . When aluminum produced by various reduction process are not very pure, in order to obtain pure metal the most widely used method for refining impure metal is electrolytic refining
