Give reasons for the following :
a. The first half of menstrual cycle is called follicular phase as well as proliferative phase.
b. The second half of menstrual cycle is called luteal phase as well as secretory phase.

a. The follicular phase of the menstrual cycle involves the maturation of ovarian follicles to prepare one of them for release during ovulation. During the same period, there are concurrent changes in the endometrium, which is why the follicular phase is also known as the proliferative phase.

b. during the second half, corpus luteum is fully formed and secretes large amount of progesterone which is why it's called luteal as well as secretory phase.
