Answer:

(i)

  • Mercury is the only one in liquid state at room temperature.
  • It's used in thermometers because it has high coefficient of expansion.
  • Hence, the slightest change in temperature is notable when it's used in a thermometer.
  • It also has a high boiling point which makes it very suitable to measure higher temperatures.

(ii)

  • The handles of cooking utensils are made up of plastic or wood because plastics and wood are bad conductor of heat.
  • As they are bad conductors of heat therefore they won't be able to pass the heat of the flame to the person's hand and will prevent the person from burns or any other injuries.
  • Cooking vessels are made up of metals because metals are good conductors of heat.
  • So they provide heat to the utensil and helps in cooking.

(iii)

  • Sea breezes occur during hot, summer days because of the unequal heating rates of land and water.
  • During the day, the land surface heats up faster than the water surface.
  • Therefore, the air above the land is warmer than the air above the ocean
  • The relative colder air over the oceans will move towards the warmer air over land
  • Hence allowing sea breeze to occur
