The hunting of seals and whales has been an adventurous tradition which is followed from the earlier period.

There were many Acts and Committees set up to protect them. The "International convention of the Regulation of whaling" (1946), the restriction has made in order to safeguard the geographic regions and to protect the whales.

The "Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Seals" (CCAS) was established in 1972, with a purpose to avoid exploitation on seal stocks.
