The valency of both Sodium and Chlorine is 1 in Sodium chloride beacuse Sodium has 1 electron in its outermost shell and chlorine has 7 electrons. It is easier for sodium to lose its 1 electron to make itself stable and form a +1 ion and for chlorine it is easy to gain an electron to compelete its octet and forming a -1 ion.
